If you are in search of a simple Italian-style recipe to prepare at home and make your meal light and perfect. Your go-to recipe is here-garlic bread, which makes a delightful meal. Mainly, garlic has many health benefits.

Garlic bread, also know for garlic toast originated in the United States and its an Italian-American dish.

I visited a restaurant and ordered garlic bread, the dish was too good. It inspired me to recreate the recipe at home. The recipe made in my kitchen turned out to be an exact match in taste. Later, I started experimenting with different flavors and methods.

Types of Bread used for the recipe of Garlic Bread

  1. Baguette – It is crunchy in exterior and soft in interior.
  2. Ciabatta – With its airy, rustic texture adds chewy bite.
  3. Italian Bread – Soft and fluffy with a slightly crunchy crust.
  4. French Bread – Similar to baguette but wider. crunchy exterior and soft interior.
  5. Whole Wheat Bread – If you’re looking for a healthier option. It is the one.
  6. Sourdough – Tangy twist, offers bit extra flavor.

Garlic Bread Recipe Ingredients

Bread loaf

1 clove garlic

1 tbsp chili flakes

1 tbsp oregano

salt (optional)

2 tbsp cooking oil (for garlic fry)

Butter / Olive oil

Coriander leaves/ Cilantro / Parsley

Normal cheese / Parmesan cheese (optional)

Step by Step Recipe Instructions of Garlic Bread with Photos

Gather the required ingredients – bread loaf, garlic, coriander leaves/cilantro/parsley, chili flakes, oregano, butter/olive oil, salt (if unsalted butter is used), and cooking oil.

Take a loaf of bread and slice it into pieces as per your preferred size. You can use baguette, ciabatta, Italian bread, French bread, white or whole wheat bread according to you taste and preference.

Peel the garlic and chop the coriander leaves or cilantro or parsley. Keep them ready for the next step in the recipe.

Fry the peeled garlic with 2 tbsp of cooking oil until it turns into golden brown color.

In a bowl, combine the fried garlic, chopped parsley/cilantro/coriander leaves, butter, 1 tbsp of chili flakes, and 1 tbsp of oregano. If your using unsalted butter add a pinch of salt. Smash all the added ingredients together well, making sure that they are perfectly mixed.

Apply or spread the smashed stuff of garlic butter to the bread piece evenly.

Apply some butter to the base of the baking sheet or tray to enhance the flavor of garlic bread. Bake in the oven at over 200 degree C for 10 to 15 minutes. Keep an eye on it to avoid over-crunchy especially on the edges of garlic bread.

Instead of oven, you can cook using pan (optional).

Take the tray out of the oven and cut the garlic bread into preferred size for easier eating.

On completion of the recipe, serve the delicious garlic bread with some chili flakes and oregano on toppings.

Pan Frying Method

Follow all the steps from 1 to 6 as mentioned in recipe, and continue with the instructions below to prepare delicious garlic bread using pan.

Place a non-stick pan over a medium heat and add generous pat of butter or olive oil to avoid burn in the next step.

Fry the dish in a medium flame for 4 minutes, and in a low flame, fry it for 7 to 8 mins.

Serve the garlic bread with some chili flakes and oregano on toppings.

Additional tips

Pan or Oven

  • If you don’t have an oven to bake the dish, you can make homemade garlic bread easily with a pan.

Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

  • If you’re a cheese lover and want to have cheesy garlic bread, after applying the garlic butter to the bread (as mentioned in step 6), add cheese on top of it.
  • You can use normal cheese or parmesan.

Extra Toppings

  • When you like to have extra toppings on the garlic bread, add extra toppings like oregano, chili flakes, paprika,  barbecue sauce, and coleslaw.
