4 sweet potatoes (300g)
100g brown sugar / jaggery powder
50g all-purpose flour

First, gather the recipe ingredients – sweet potatoes, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, walnuts/pecans, unsalted butter, egg, sugar powder, and vanilla to prepare sweet potato casserole.

Start by rinsing all the sweet potatoes under the water to remove any dirt and peel them using a vegetable peeler. Cut off both ends using a sharp knife and slice them into planks or discs, about 1/2 inch thick or as per your preferred size and shape.

Place the chopped sweet potatoes in a pot and add enough water to cover them by an inch. Boil them for 10 – 15 minutes and check whether it is properly boiled using a fork.

Once it is boiled, drain the water using a colander and smash all of them.

Take the mashed potatoes in a bowl, and add 1 egg, 1 cup of sugar powder about 50g, and 3 – 4 drops of vanilla extract to enhance flavor, and mix everything until smooth. After mixing, set aside and consider this as a first mixture to understand the recipe easily in the upcoming process.

Take another bowl, add 50g of brown sugar or jaggery powder, 50g of all-purpose flour, walnuts, and butter. Mix everything well and set aside. Consider this as a second mixture to get the recipe instructions easily in the next process.

Now, apply butter to the base of a glass or ceramic baking dish and add the first mixture (smashed sweet potatoes, egg, sugar powder, and vanilla extract) as the first layer in the baking dish.
